Is there any downtime? No. There is absolutely zero down time with any of these laser treatments. You can have a treatment done on your lunch break and return to work no problem at all if you like. The treated area may be slightly reddened, but most people resume normal daily activities immediately following a treatment session.

Why do I have to be out of the sun for a minimum of 2-3 weeks prior to laser treatment? When sunlight hits your skin, it activates your melanocytes to produce melanin. If you have been in the sun weeks before your laser treatment, your melanocytes will be hyperactive and this could cause hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation when the laser light hits the treatment area. This could be temporary, or in some cases, could be permanent. This is why we say the longer you are out of the sun the better.

How does the laser actually work?Laser is actually an acronym that stands for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. This radiation is the safe kind called non-ionizing radiation. Our GentleMax Pro is a dual platform laser that actually uses 2 solid mediums...Nd-YAG and Alexandrite. This allows us to use a variety of wavelengths to target multiple chromophores (different colored structures in tissue) for an array of treatments. How the laser works is through selective photothermolysis. The theory of selective thermolysis states the laser light of a specific wavelength can destroy a target containing the adequate chromophore without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Why does laser hair removal take multiple sessions? This is due to our hair growth cycles. There are 3 phases...anagen, catagen, and telogen. The optimal growth stage for the laser to deactivate hair growth is in the late anagen phase. Depending on where the hair is on the body it can take 35-45 days to enter that late anagen phase. Because we have no idea what phase any of our hairs are in at any give time, we have to do multiple treatments. So the hairs we missed in one session we will get the next. That is why it is key to come on a regular basis for your initial treatment sessions or it could delay treatment results. Once you have achieved the results you want, we recommend a maintenance treatment every 6 months to year.

Is laser hair removal for everyone? While our GentleMax Pro laser uses the most advanced technology allowing us to now provide laser hair removal on ALL skin types, it does not work on all hair colors. Since lasers rely on melanin as the target chromophore to effectively deactivate growth, grey, red, and blonde hair can pose a problem. In the case of grey hair, if it is newly grey, there could still be melanin below the surface that the laser will target and render it lifeless. But without seeing beneath the skin's surface, it is hard to say how effective your treatments might be. In addition, there are some medical conditions as well as medications that cause photosensitivity that will require a Dr.'s permission before we can proceed with treatments. We do not provide treatments on pregnant women. If you have any questions regarding your hair color or medical condition, feel free to call us or set up a free consultation and we can discuss everything with you.

How long does it take before I can start to see a difference?By using the GentleMax Pro Laser we can create what we call a "controlled injury" which initiates the body's natural cascade of collagen building goodies to provide tighter looking skin. We suggest 4-6 treatments (one per month) and it can take collagen up to 12 weeks to form. Good things come to those who wait...and this is definitely worth the wait!

What can I expect with age spot and freckle removal? After your laser treatment, you can expect the spot to get darker before it fades away. This can take a few weeks and may require one or more treatments depending on the darkness of the spot. You may have crusting on the spot, we recommend applying Aquaphor to area to keep moist.
